While the results were not what the Philadelphia team was hoping for, our team could not have played harder at the 117th Women’s Inter-City Matches for the Griscom Cup. The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale provided quite a test for the talented field of players from the three associations (Mass Golf, The Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association, and The Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia). The greens were the ultimate test in strategy, skill, and keeping nerves in check over the two days of matches.
The first day was foursome play and saw WMGA (NY) take a 9 point lead over WGAP and a 9.5 point lead over Mass Golf. Playing in reverse order on the second day (singles matches), WMGA’s players expanded the lead making it tough for either of the associations to make enough of a dent to overtake them.
Congrats to all the teams and especially WMGA for winning the Griscom Cup for the 43rd time (tying WGAP). After a year of uncertainty and cancelling the 2020 matches, it was a pleasure to have the teams compete. We were incredibly grateful to all who worked so hard to make this tournament a success.
