Saturday, September 9 starts the first round of the USGA Senior Women’s Amateur in Portland, OR at Waverly Country Club. WGAP has four players competiting. Liz Haines (Merion), Lisa McGill (Sunnybrook), Suzi Spotleson (RiverCrest), and Noreen Mohler (Northampton) all qualified for the event. Follow scoring at www.usga.org.
Earlier this summer, Jennifer Cleary (Wilmington) competed in the USGA Junior Girls’ Amateur at Boone Valley GC in Augusta, MO. She shot 75-78 in qualifying and missed match play by 1 shot. Meghan Stasi (Tavistock), Madeline Sager (Spring Ford) and Brynn Walker (St. Davids) played in the USGA Women’s Amateur at San Diego CC in San Diego, CA. Meghan shot 74-77 and missed match play by 1. Brynn shot 77-81 and Madeline shot 83-80 and both missed the cut.
Next month, Catherine Elliott (Merion), Karen Siegel (Commonwealth), Meghan Perry (Wilmington), and Meghan Stasi (Tavistock) will compete in the USGA Women’s Mid-Am Championship at Quail Creek CC in Naples, FL. The tournament starts October 7.
The amount of competition even just to qualify for one of these tournaments is intense. It is an amazing accomplishment for all of these players, and WGAP couldn’t be more proud of them!
