Junior Girls’ Championship Results

A large and talented field on a beautiful Phoenixville Country Club course made for a great two days of golf on July 1 and 2 at our Junior and Junior Junior Girls’ Championships.  We had three divisions competing and crowned three new champions.

In our “prep” division for 18 holes, Meredith Finger came out strong on day 1 with an impressive 1-over 73.  She held a 3 shot lead going into day 2 over Hannah Webb and 5 shot lead over Elizabeth Wang and Vivienne Powers.  It was a close competition on day 2, but Finger held on, shooting 77 to win by over Vivienne Powers who followed up her 78 with 77 to finish solo second.  The low score on day 2 came from Savannah Laverty, shooting 73 and moving from 13th position after day 1 to 6th overall.

In our “futures” division for 18 holes, we had close competition as well.  After day 1, there were 5 players within 5 shots of the lead, held by Tsai Yan Chiang, who shot 80.  Day 2 saw the back and forth close race continue.  In the end, Alaina Carson shot the low round of the day, an impressive 77 (day 1 – 82) to win by 3 over Chiang (80-82).

In our “discovery” division for 9 holes, steady, wonderful golf was the name of the game for our champion, Valerie Danby.  Valerie shot 1-under 35s on both days of competition to win by 10 shots.  The competition for second place was a close one with Trisha Lobo (38-42) finishing second by 5 shots over Evelyn Brillman (44-41).
