Letter sent to the WGAP Griscom Cup Team:
We hope that you and your families are safe and well. We have been monitoring the coronavirus situation, reviewing the guidelines and mandates set forth, in order to assess the viability of conducting our May events. Unfortunately, given the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have collectively made the difficult decision to cancel the 117th Griscom Cup scheduled to be held on May 27th and 28th at Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York.
We did not make this decision lightly as the health and well-being of our players, staff and communities are paramount. The Griscom Cup is steeped in tradition and has been played since 1898 except during WWI, WWII and a rain cancellation in 1984. We were all looking forward to this premier women’s golf competition and are as disappointed as you but the most prudent choice was to suspend the event.
We want to thank the management and staff of Westchester Country Club for agreeing to host and their preliminary preparations for this elite golf tournament. These are unprecedented times and many difficult decisions are being made, but together we will get through this. While we all enjoy the thrill of competitive golf, right now there are other priorities to focus on.
Please be safe.
Sincerely,
